Ode to Wood

Join on a guided walking tour during which you are able to dive into the world of wood design! The tour takes place at vicinity of Lahti harbor including four pieces of Wooden Architecture Park (designs of Hermann Kaufmann, Kengo Kuma, Richard Leplastier and Gert Wingårdh), old railway station (acting as a cafeteria nowadays) and Gallery Pro Puu with a permanent exhibition of wood joinery. Also new trends of Finnish wood design are represented at the Gallery’s handicraft shop and temporary exhibitions. This tour includes also a short introduction of Sibelius Hall.

”Culture in Urban Nature” Olavi Lanu

During this guided walking tour, you will get to know internationally known sculptor Olavi Lanu`s (1925-2015) sculptures.
Sculptures are situated as a part of lively townscape as well as part of beautiful nature in Lanu Sculpture Park.

The tour starts from Ristinkirkko Church (designed by Alvar Aalto) where two sculptures of Olavi Lanu is situated. The tour
continues towards the actual Lanu Sculpture Park, where twelve large concrete sculptures are located. Sculptures are both
figurative and also feature natural objects such as a boulder, willow tree, or a twisted tree. In the summer the grey colouring
sculptures are half covered with moss which help them to blend in with the natural environment.

Duration: 2-3-hours

Note: Good walking shoes and appropriate clothes depending on weather; 2 kilometers of walking and climbing up steep hill

Finnish Architecture in Lahti: Alvar Aalto and Eliel Saarinen

Explore the designs of Alvar Aalto and Eliel Saarinen in Lahti with a guide! During this guided walking tour, you will admire the work of famous Finnish architects Alvar Aalto and Eliel Saarinen.

The tour starts from Ristinkirkko Church designed by Alvar Aalto and completed in 1978. From the church the tour continues to Lahti City Hall designed by Eliel Saarinen (please notify: short inside tour is possible only during working hours). Lahti City Hall was completed in 1912 and represents Jugend style.
